ANACORTES, WA -- On Wednesday September 12, the Shell Puget Sound Refinery will participate in an emergency response drill in conjunction with Air Liquide and local emergency response agencies. The CAER Drill is conducted annually to test the March Point Emergency Response Plan and communications with the our counterparts such as Summit Park Fire Department, Anacortes Fire Department, Department of Emergency Management, Island Hospital, Anacortes Red Cross, Air Liquide, General Chemical, Swinomish Police Department and Tesoro Refining & Marketing Company. The annual exercise ensures that everyone that might be required to respond to an emergency on March Point will be prepared if a response is required.
Both Shell and Air Liquide will have First Responders involved in triage at the parking lot south of the Medical Department along with first responders from Summit Park and Anacortes Fire Department. Multiple "injured" or players provided by Anacortes Red Cross will be triaged and transported to Island Hospital to test the Hospital's ability to manage a mass causality incident (MCI). Also during these activities, equipment will be staged on the roadway outside the Main Gate and Summit Park Volunteer fire fighters will receive fire training at Shell's Fire Training Grounds.
The drill will commence at 6:00pm, PDT. Due to site safety and security policies, only persons participating in the drill will be allowed on plant premises. No media will be allowed on site during the exercise, but photos of the exercise and additional information will be made available on request.
